Catherine coaches senior executives in private and non-profit organizations that operate in complex contexts. Her work has given her a keen appreciation of the extraordinary demands that are made on leaders and she works to bring the best leading edge ideas and approaches to her clients to help them make the changes that are most important to them and their organizations. In her coaching, she helps clients to identify their unique strengths, assess areas of leadership risk, strategize about key relationships, and promote the immediate and long-term success of their organizations.
Catherine is internationally recognized as one of founders of the field of executive coaching. Her highly-rated book on executive coaching is required reading in coaching programs around the world. Catherine also has extensive experience helping leaders and their companies become more successful. In addition to her executive coaching, she has facilitated team development and organizational change efforts. She has also taught courses on leadership development and organizational change at a number of universities, including Georgetown University and the University of Maryland at College Park.
Catherine earned a Ph.D. in psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed an internship in psychology at Yale University. She writes and researches about leadership and complexity, strategy, leadership in the second half of life, and personality and leadership style and effectiveness. She is co-editor (with Jennifer Garvey Berger) of Executive Coaching: Practices and Perspectives, a book that focuses on leading-edge approaches to executive coaching, and of Developing Leaders: Research and Applications in Psychological Type and Leadership Development. Catherine is a regular conference presenter. She has taught courses on executive coaching and leadership development both in the United States and internationally.
